"Empower Baraboo" Rape Prevention & Education (RPE)

Through our Rape Prevention & Education (RPE) grant, Hope House is working to prevent sexual violence before it begins. The RPE grant – or “Empower Baraboo” project – focuses on Baraboo High School and addresses four risk factors that contribute to high rates of sexual violence:
  • Gender-based and homophobic harassment
  • A culture that tolerates and glorifies violence
  • Hypersexualization of young people
  • Sexual entitlement and cultural misperceptions of consent
By changing social norms, we aim to create a safe, healthy and respectful culture at Baraboo High School because all students deserve an environment free from harassment, assault, and rape. This work is carried out by our full-time Prevention Project Coordinator who works in conjunction with an Advisory Committee made up of Baraboo High School students, staff, and interested community members. The grant went into implementation in February 2016 and will run through January 2019.
