Learn how to better protect kids and teens! Created by the national organization Darkness to Light, the new Stewards of Children teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Please allow 2.5-3 hours for this award-winning, evidence-informed training that utilizes a video, workbook, and group discussion. Hope House Services This presentation offers an overview of Hope House's free and confidential services, including advocacy, shelter, and community education. You'll also hear about our upcoming events, current donation needs, and volunteer opportunities. Domestic Violence Learn about the realities of domestic violence, different types of abuse, obstacles victims face in leaving, how to support someone you know that’s being abused, and resources for young people and adults. Sexual Assault Learn about the definitions of sexual assault and consent, the dynamics, the impact on a victim, barriers to disclosure, how you can support people that have experienced sexual assault, and how you can help prevent it. Elder Abuse From the National Center on Elder Abuse's STEAP Initiative, this presentation covers the different types of elder abuse, risk and protective factors, warning signs, how to report it, and what each of us can do to prevent elder abuse. Safe & Healthy Relationships This interactive presentation invites participants to identify what a safe and healthy relationship looks, sounds, and feels like vs. what an unhealthy relationships looks, sounds, and feels like. We discuss what you can do to have healthier relationships and what you can do if you or someone you know is in an unhealthy relationship. Bystander Intervention With information from Right to Be and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, this training teaches individuals to recognize unsafe and inappropriate behaviors and explains the 5Ds for intervention strategies. Using scenarios, we guide participants in practicing the skills related to safely taking action to stop harassment. Childhood Domestic Violence Learn about the realities of what kids and teens are exposed to when there's an abusive adult in the home, the factors for how children might be affected, warning signs, things to say and how to help children thrive. The presentation includes a viewing of the film, Family Secrets: When Violence Hits Home. Audience-Specific Training OptionsBusinesses: As a result of the abuse they’re experiencing, domestic violence survivors often report having their work performance suffer and losing their job. Yet, economic insecurity is frequently cited as the main barrier to leaving an abusive partner. All of us have a role to play in stopping this cycle of violence. "Workplaces Respond to Domestic Abuse" covers how to make your workplace safer by proactively addressing domestic violence. Learn best practices for supporting employees who are experiencing domestic violence, Hope House services and the role of an advocate, as well as national resources from Workplaces Respond, such as a model policy and a restraining order guide.
Health Depts/Public Health/Home Visitors: Adapted from Futures Without Violence's Safe Homes, Safe Babies curriculum, this presentation works to ensure that home visitors have adequate training and resources to help families living with domestic violence. Health Care Professionals: Adapted from End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin and IPVhealth.org, this presentation teaches health care professionals best practices on screening for domestic violence and sexual assault, including how to appropriately ask about abuse, what to say if they say no but you suspect abuse, what to do if they disclose, and how to refer to Hope House. Law Enforcement: Learn about the role of a Hope House advocate, our law enforcement referral process, the confidentiality law, common victim behavior, barriers to disclosure, and supportive statements and behavior. Faith Leaders: Learn about the realities of domestic violence and sexual assault, examples of spiritual abuse, how to support victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and how your congregation can raise awareness. Cosmetology: Cut It Out is a national program that teaches hair stylists how to recognize the warning signs of domestic violence, how to appropriately respond, how to refer, and how to raise awareness in salons. The SAFE Bar Network is a national organization that partners with bars and other alcohol-serving venues to create a workplace culture focused on giving everyone a safe night out. Interested businesses will also become part of The SAFE Bar Network. In the one-hour training, we facilitate conversations with employees on ways to step in when they see unsafe situations. With support from the owners and management, the goal is for employees to feel empowered to create a comfortable, safe, and fun atmosphere for patrons and staff alike. Developed for female athletes, Athletes as Leaders was based off of CBIM. Hope House can provide your coaches with the train-the-trainer session to learn more about these programs and/or to begin implementation. |
